You’ve wanted to learn to play the violin for ages! In fact, you saved up for years just so you could buy a violin and a bow. But now that you have the instrument on hand, you’re at a loss what to do with it or how. Planning to learn to play the violin is one thing; actually getting it done is another.
How exactly do you make music with your violin and your bow?
1. Hold the bow correctly.
Lay your index finger on the grip. Then, place the other fingers on the same edge, at an equal distance to each other. Your pinky, on the other hand, should be on the lower edge.
2. Position the violin.
Hold your violin using your left hand and your chin. Your jaw should rest on the chinrest. As you sit up straight, the end of the violin - called the scroll - should point straight out. Then, put your hand around the base of the violin’s neck.
3. Put the bow between the fingerboard and the bridge.
To produce a fairly loud sound, tilt the bow just the wee bit away from yourself. The, pull the bow along the strings. Do this straightly and apply as much pressure as needed. The more the pressure you exert, the bigger the sound you produce. Even as you exert yourself in this manner, though, make sure your wrists are fully relaxed.
4. Practice on the open strings
Do full strokes first then half strokes. Then, practice making the transition from one string to another. Continue doing this until you can play one string at a time and not touch other strings.
5. Play scales.
D you know what a scale is? It’s where you begin by playing a note on a string that’s much lower. There are many scales. D major, A major - you name it, there’s a scale for it. Clearly, you can’t learn to play the violin unless you make peace with the scales. Done properly, you can produce warm sounds as you play the different scales.
Of course, if you want to speed up your learning, why not just get ViolinMasterPro?
